HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY

Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974

This is the Health and Safety policy statement of: Training to Achieve (UK) Ltd

Our statement of general policy is:

  • To provide adequate control of the health and safety risks arising from our work activities;
  • To consult with our employees on matters affecting their health and safety;
  • To provide and maintain safe plant and equipment;
  • To ensure safe handling and use of substances;
  • To provide information, instruction and supervision for all employees;
  • To ensure all employees are competent to do their tasks, and to give them adequate training;
  • To prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill health;
  • To maintain safe and healthy working conditions; and
  • To review and revise this policy as necessary at regular intervals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Overall, final and day to day responsibility for health and safety is that of: Alison Miles-Jenkins, Managing Director

To ensure health and safety standards are maintained/improved, our trainers and management consultants have to:

  • Co-operate on health and safety matters
  • Not interfere with anything provided to safeguard their health and safety
  • Take reasonable care of their own health and safety; and
  • Report all health and safety concerns to an appropriate person

HEALTH AND SAFETY RISKS ARISING FROM OUR WORK ACTIVITIES

  • Our services are delivered on client premises and therefore risk assessments are normally undertaken by the client
  • The findings of the risk assessments will be reported to: Alison Miles-Jenkins
  • Action required to remove/control risks will be approved by: Alison Miles-Jenkins
  • Assessments will be reviewed every year
  • Or when the work activity changes, whichever is the soonest.

CONSULTATION WITH EMPLOYEES

Our trainers and management consultants work with us on a self-employed basis and as such are made aware of this policy before commencing any contract.

SAFE HANDLING AND USE OF SUBSTANCES

Alison Miles-Jenkins will:

  • be responsible for undertaking COSHH assessments
  • ensure that all actions identified in the assessments are implemented
  • check that new substances can be used safely before they are purchased

Assessments will be reviewed every year or when the work activity changes, whichever is the soonest

INFORMATION, INSTRUCTION AND SUPERVISION

  • The Health and Safety law poster is displayed at our office at 273 London Road Stanway Colchester Essex CO3 8LU:

Alison Miles-Jenkins is responsible for ensuring that our employees working at locations under the control of others’ employers, are given relevant health and safety information.

COMPETENCY FOR TASKS AND TRAINING

  • Induction training will be provided for all employees. Training will be identified, arranged and monitored by Alison Jenkins.

ACCIDENTS, FIRST AID AND WORK-RELATED ILL HEALTH

  • Health surveillance records will be kept at/by:

Alison Miles-Jenkins Is responsible for reporting accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences (RIDDOR) to the enforcing authority

MONITORING

  • To check our working conditions, and ensure our safe working practices are being followed, we will undertake a visual check of training rooms before commencing training.  Familiarise ourselves with the location specific information such as fire escapes / emergency procedures. :

Alison Miles-Jenkins is responsible for investigating accidents, work-related causes of sickness absences and for acting on investigation findings to prevent a reoccurrence

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

Alison Miles-Jenkins Is responsible for ensuring the fire risk assessment is undertaken and implemented

Escape routes are checked by: Alison Jenkins daily.

  • Fire extinguishers are maintained and checked every: year
  • Alarms are tested every: week
  • Emergency evacuation will be tested every: 3 months

Monitoring will be done on a regular basis.  Prospective employees will be made fully aware of the policy in recruitment literature and advertising as appropriate. Specifically regarding recognising and promoting equalities/diversity issues on training courses, Training To Achieve will:

  • take care with personal pronouns and use Plain English
  • ensure all visual material  does not advantage/disadvantage any group or individual more than any other
  • check any special needs/requirements before the course (eg access issues, hearing, sight, literacy etc)
  • avoid inappropriate terminology eg ‘Christian names’
  • stress sensitivity to cultural considerations when discussing communication skills/interpersonal skills/body language issues
  • be sensitive to the above when communicating to the group
  • promote feedback and discussion to ensure equal representation of diverse views/perceptions
  • not show favouritism to any delegate/group
  • challenge any stereotyping, racist or sexist behaviour promoted by any group member
  • make sure that groups are not dominated by one individual and offer support and encouragement as appropriate to other group members.
